Newcastle Mayor crosses the line

​Are our elected government representatives going too far? While we watch the State of Victoria be completely decimated by what seems to be a series of poor decisions by the Andrew’s government, the Lord Mayor of Newcastle, Nuatali Nelmes, has created this extremely aggressive, inaccurate and biased post on Facebook.
Addressing the Vaxxed Bus tour currently underway in Australia, Nelmes states “the City of Newcastle… will ban the event, and any anti-vaccination events, from occurring on any of our land, or at any of our facilities, and will take enforcement action if any unapproved events take place in our City”. She goes on to advise she has “written the NSW Police Commissioner Michael Fuller APM and the NSW Minister for Health, the Hon. Brad Hazzard MP, asking them to use the full force of their powers to ban this event from Newcastle and New South Wales”. The post is accompanied by an image of the Vaxxed Bus tour poster, with a big red X through it, titled “NEWCASTLE SAYS NO TO ANTI-VAXXERS…. SHARE IF YOU AGREE”.
Whoah. So, what is Nelmes so angry about?
The purpose of the global Vaxxed bus tours, is to give a voice to families and individuals who have suffered injury or death as a result of receiving a vaccination. These families share their story and then write their names on the side of the bus in a ritual of sorts, symbolising being seen and heard.
Unfortunately, injury and death by vaccines is all too common, with the National Childhood Vaccine Injury Compensation Program (NCVICP) in the US (a key legislation component of the National Childhood Vaccine Injury Act), paying out over $4billion dollars since its inception in the late 1980’s.
In actuality, all vaccine inserts carry warnings of severe adverse risks associated with the vaccine. For example, the Vitamin K vaccine comes with a black box warning which is the most severe, as it indicates death as a known side effect. Shockingly, the Vitamin K vaccine is administered as soon as a baby is born before any allergies can be ascertained.
Representatives from the Vaxxed Bus tour issued an immediate press release, calling out the Lord Mayor for “censorship, suppression and exclusion of families who… have paid the ultimate price for vaccinating their children. Every single one of these families did as they were told, thinking it would make their children healthy. Instead, they found out the hard way that vaccines can and do cause serious injury and death”.
The comments from Nelmes beggars the question, what happened to freedom of speech? Or even beyond that, freedom of thought? With the Australian Government throwing around terms for the Covid-19 vaccine to be made as “mandatory as possible”, it may be evident that this kind of censorship falls in line with the national narrative.
However we, as human beings, retain the right to medical freedom and bodily autonomy.

No matter what side of the fence one resides, it is almost impossible to justify the aggressive, one-sided, and inaccurate statement from a public official such as the Lord Mayor of Newcastle. The time has come for our elected officials to be held to account.
